That is a perfect description of my experience also. I would add that for me over the 12 years I have been practicing massage, this phenomenon has occurred just about anywhere. As if the word massage had some hypnotic power on people causing them to loose all their consideration or couth trying to convince me that they may "die" if I don't do anything, like you said, right now.
Depending on the setting and their level of intoxication (giving massage to a person who has been drinking or is otherwise intoxicated is unwise and can cause the person to feel sick and that is the last thing we want.) I either do a quick 5min myofascial shoulder-neck release using the Active Release technique, which is profoundly effective and easy to do, I give them my card. Or friends card.

Here is another angle to the the massage-social event connection to consider.
In the Bay Area it has been quite popular thing to have a healing room at the dance parties and events, it is a fantastic way to show off your skills,.meet new potential clients, while enjoying a wonderful music, and people.
I worked doing massage at many festivals and events like Earth Dance and the Groove Garden for years. There is something magical about giving massage, while being enveloped by the high volume ambient music.
Thank you

Great advice! This is something I've been struggling with at my social events the past few months as well. It's good to be reminded that you can, more often than not, gracefully turn these situations into something positive for both parties. Thank you!
