The River Stone Shiatsu Center is looking for 2-3 highly driven massage therapists to learn a very rare art form: Sennin-So Shiatsu A little about the shiatsu we perform and our company: Sennin-So Shiatsu is a specialized practice performed by about 20 people around the world. It has been passed down for over 30 generations through the Shimizu family and just recently was taught outside of the family. Adam Hewitt, the owner of The River Stone Shiatsu Center, began as an apprentice under Mike Kazunori Shimizu in 2008 and during his apprenticeship he was inspired to continue to learn, grow, and ultimately continue to spread this amazing healing art to as many people as possible. Over 2 years ago, Adam opened The River Stone Shiatsu Center. In 2013, Adam began training his younger sister, Kacey. Over the next few years he has trained a handful of other practitioners and now The River Stone Shiatsu Center has 3 of his students. The clientele at The River Stone Shiatsu Center is growing rapidly and the practitioners are extremely busy, especially on weekends. The River Stone Shiatsu Center is searching for 2-3 massage therapists interested in specializing in this rare healing art, keeping it true to the 650 year old shiatsu passed down through the Shimizu family line. The River Stone Shiatsu Center prides itself on offering this very competitive selection process. As such, it involves specific requirements that must be met to maintain the integrity of Sennin-So Shiatsu and the practitioners who perform it. Requirements: - A massage license from Washington State - Liability Insurance - 3+ years of experience as a working massage therapist - A physical health assessment performed by a member of The River Stone Shiatsu Center to check for: - Overall physical health in order to perform this Shiatsu - Thumb integrity as this area is vital to perform Shiatsu and can break down if structural integrity is weak. - The River Stone Shiatsu Center is an equal opportunity employer and look to expand this art to any and all who wish to learn and are in proper health to perform this technique. We do not discriminate based on gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, etc.. - The desire to become an apprentice to learn this technique under the direction The River Stone Shiatsu Center’s founding practitioner, Adam Hewitt. - 4,000 hour commitment from the time training begins: This commitment covers the cost of the 3 phases of training and continued training over the course of 3+ years. - This technique requires a therapist who is self-motivated to network in order to gain clientele. The growth of your clientele is directly related to how active you are with networking. The River Stone Shiatsu Center has built its large clientele base on networking and will work and guide newer practitioners down the proper road for success. - During the 3rd phase of training, you must have the ability to work at least 3 days a week including 1 weekend day. Note about training: Training is not paid and is usually 1 day per week. There are 3 Phases. Phase 1 of the training introduces you to the technique and a few shiatsu points. This Phase may take about a month. How quickly you develop your touch and how you progress depends on how often you practice. After Phase 1 you will be evaluated for touch, comprehension, and whether this technique would be a good fit for you moving forward. If either you or the shiatsu practitioner do not feel it is to be a good fit, you will be released from finishing the 3 year apprenticeship without further training thereafter. Phase 2 training is far more advanced and in-depth and can take about 3 months*. You will learn how to do a full 35 minute shiatsu treatment and become educated on the theories and practices of this technique. The length of time required to finish Phase 2 is solely based on the practitioner’s rate of practice and focus. The more you practice, the faster this phase moves through. Phase 3 is when your shiatsu practitioner feels you have progressed enough to work on clients. You will continue to do monthly training to develop your shiatsu touch until the end of your 4,000 hour apprenticeship. After the initial apprenticeship has commenced, you can stay as a shiatsu practitioner employed at The River Stone Shiatsu Center or continue as a practitioner on your own. Practitioners who stay on receive increase in commission, benefits, profit sharing, and other perks. Commission- Practitioners get paid on commission. Your starting commission is based on experience. On average, starting commission is around $25 per shiatsu (45 minutes session) plus tips. For example: a practitioner of 3 years has shown to make $2,800 working a 3 day schedule (24 hours total) when almost fully booked for a two week pay period.
